Prairie Impressions 2021
The Society of Northern Alberta Print-Artists (SNAP) and Alberta Printmakers (A/P) are collaborating together for a second year in row to celebrate Alberta Culture Days 2021 across the province. While Calgary and Edmonton may often be pitted as rivals in Alberta, SNAP and A/P are joining together to offer a variety of free, interactive, and engaging online printmaking programming for all ages.

Part 1: Live Artist Presentations - September 7th and 14th, 2021
Come to meet and be inspired by printmakers who live and work across Alberta as they speak about their artistic practice. Join us to enjoy live presentations by two different artists, Edmonton- based printmaker Myken McDowell & Lethbridge-based printmaker Kellen Spencer. You will get a sneak peek into their studio spaces, learn about their creative processes, discover new techniques and artistic possibilities, and learn more about their work. Both artists will also be giving a demonstration of their preferred printmaking technique as they print their edition of Prairie Impressions postcards.
Watch the two presentations live on Zoom on Tuesday, September 7 & Tuesday, September 14 from 6:30 pm to 8 pm MDT. Or, enjoy the recorded content afterwards which will be available on SNAP Gallery's YouTube Channel for the duration of the Alberta Culture Days celebrations until September 30.

Enjoy an interactive presentation to view and learn more about Lethbridge based print-artist Kellen Spencer. Kellen will be printing an edition of Prairie Impressions postcards and sharing more about his preferred techniques and processes.
Part 2: Interactive Print Party - September 18th, 2021
Get your entire household together to join us for an interactive Prairie Impressions Print Party on Saturday, September 18! This is the second portion of the three-part programming series: Prairie Impressions, hosted collaboratively by A/P and SNAP in conjunction with Alberta Culture Days.
After enjoying the artist presentations and printmaking demonstrations on the 7th & 14th, all are invited to experience a real-time print party from your own home. Join in the fun and print your own postcards to celebrate Alberta Culture Days with A/P and SNAP! Two talented printmakers will be giving interactive and exciting demonstrations so everyone can learn new techniques and printmaking-at-home skills. Calgary-based printmaker Christina Krentz and Edmonton-based Gina Pasaran will first share about their artwork and creative practice and then will showcase their favourite printmaking techniques and give live demonstrations and tutorials in which you can easily follow along at home.
Printmaking-at-home supply lists and resource guides will be available in the coming week and will be sent to participants to prepare in time.

Online Interactive Print Party, Printshop Tours, and Printmaking Demonstrations
Join in the fun of a print party to create your very own edition of Prairie Impressions postcards while learning from artists Christina Krentz and Gina Pasaran. All ages and skill levels are encouraged to participate and learn from the instructing artists who will take you through the steps of printing and how to successfully print at home.
The presentations and demonstrations will be recorded and will be posted on both A/P’s and SNAP’s websites linking you to SNAP Gallery's YouTube Channel following the initial live registered viewings of the dates listed above. However, be sure you don’t miss out on any printmaking skills and processes by registering early to receive more information, including printmaking-at-home supply lists, how to have your postcards showcased, and further updates!
Part 3: Online Postcard Showcase - 21st - 30th, 2021
The final portion of programming will result in an online showcase for all participants to have their postcards featured over social media. Artists of all ages will have the exciting opportunity to share their artwork with others by creating an edition of hand-printed postcards, by directly mailing them to friends and family, and by sending images to SNAP and A/P to feature online.
Any postcards images sent to SNAP and A/P using the hashtag #prairieimpressions will be featured on social media. In addition the prints from the presenting and instructing artists will be showcased online during the rest of the month to feature the techniques and artist’s practices.
During the month of celebration we will encourage all participants to share their artwork, mail postcards to their loved ones, and post their prints up in the windows for Albertans to see and enjoy.
