Alberta Printmakers

About

Our Dedication

We are dedicated to cultivating an inclusive space to:

Since its inception in 1989, Alberta Printmakers (A/P) has been a cornerstone of Calgary’s cultural tapestry, passionately upholding the art of printmaking. Our mission is to ignite creativity, foster a sense of community, and provide a nurturing environment for artists and enthusiasts alike to learn, create, and engage.

Learn about printmaking

We provide engaging workshops and resources for all ages to learn printmaking, from its rich history to contemporary practice.

Create and exhibit print-based media

Our studio and gallery offer a creative haven for artists to produce and showcase their print media works within Calgary’s thriving arts scene.

Pursue artistic opportunities

A/P champions artist development through exhibitions, collaborations, and residency programs that open doors to new possibilities in the arts.

How We Do It

We do this through:

Our A/P Gallery and Studio

The A/P Gallery and Studio is the creative nucleus where artists and the public can immerse themselves in the world of printmaking, experiencing the artistic process firsthand.

Quality workshops for all experience levels

Our workshops are designed to cater to everyone from beginners to seasoned artists, ensuring a rich learning experience that hones skill and technique in printmaking.

Artist talks and free community events

We bridge the gap between artists and the community with regular artist talks and complimentary events that celebrate printmaking and foster cultural engagement.

Providing artists with opportunities

A/P is committed to the continual growth of artists by offering a suite of opportunities that challenge, inspire, and promote artistic advancement.

The society is formed to:

  • Advance the public’s appreciation of printmaking as a vital art form through exhibitions, artist talks, and programs featuring high quality contemporary print-based artwork that are open to the general public.
  • Promote printmaking as a vital artform within the arts industry through operating and maintaining a safe and publicly accessible studio facility that enables the production of printed works of a high professional standard.
  • Advance education in traditional and contemporary printmaking techniques through training workshops and demonstrations, public exhibition opportunities, and outreach activities that serve both artists and the general public of all experience levels.
  • Preserve printmaking as a vital art form within the arts industry and promote excellence in the field through pursuing and facilitating artistic practices that maintain high standards.

Open Membership

We have an open membership, which means anyone, anywhere in the world can become a member. The organization is governed by a board of directors and operated by the Executive Director, Programming and Engagement Coordinator, and Studio Operations Coordinator, who reach out to volunteers to accomplish A/P’s goals.
