3D HOLIDAY ORNAMENTS!

COLLABORATION BETWEEN A/P AND AUARTS STUDENTS

Thank you for purchasing a foldable ornament and supporting Alberta Printmakers!

STEP 1

Open your kit!

Each kit includes:

  • Two identical ornaments

  • Two sets of glue dots

  • Two pieces of ribbon

STEP 2

Gather your supplies

You will need:

  • A ruler

  • A utility knife or pair of scissors

  • A bone fold (or a spoon)

  • A tool for scoring- we use a sewing tool, but a mechanical pencil without the lead will also work. Any tool pointed enough to score but not
    cut will suffice.

  • Double sided tape or a glue stick may be used instead of the provided glue dots if you prefer.

STEP 3

Cut out your ornament

Take care to only cut around the ornament

STEP 4

Score the paper

Using your scorer or alternative tool, score all the grey lines on the ornament.

Make sure you only indent the paper,
and do not cut it.

STEP 5

Fold the scored lines

Face the image towards yourself and fold away. Use the bone fold or spoon and deepen all the creases before you begin using the glue dots.

STEP 6

Tie your ribbon

Tie your ribbon in a basic knot and adjust the length to your preferences. Place the tied ribbon loop up into the top of the ornament.

STEP 7

Open your glue dots

Apply the first glue dot to the top part of the ornament to keep the ribbon in place.

The glue dots are a little large, so don’t be afraid to pull or cut the dots apart into smaller pieces, especially on the
smaller tabs. Stretching the dots before you place them on the paper provide a cleaner look.

When you’re attaching the tabs, take care to keep the tabs flush and the ends connected for a crisper look.

STEP 8

Apply the glue dots

Continue applying glue dots to the tabs. It is easiest to work on the tabs closest to where the bottom part of the ornament attaches the top.

If you need more room, don’t be afraid to bend the crease in the other direction to make more room for your hands.

STEP 9

Close the ornament

Leave the large tab to the end. Place glue dots on the final tabs and gently press the ornament together.

You can poke your blade through one of the slits to better pop the last "window" into place.
