On September 30th and October 1st, Alberta Printmakers is bringing back the Print it Yourself Festival with an additional public event at the City of Calgary Block Party!

Alberta Printmakers is very excited to host its 6th year of Print It Yourself, coming together with the community and inspiring greater participation and engagement in arts and culture. Last year we had close to 200 participants come to learn various techniques of printmaking, and to connect with local artists in order to develop a better understanding of the arts in Calgary.

This year, Alberta Printmakers presents their 6th annual Print it Yourself Festival, including a free day of printmaking workshops as well as an additional demonstration day at the City of Calgary's Block Party. With last year’s Print It Yourself event and Alberta Culture Days block party being such a success, we have chosen to continue to participate in these events to welcome the public to become more aware and involved in the printmaking process.

During the Alberta Culture Days weekend, we will open our studio doors and invite the public to participate in various printmaking activities, taught by professional printmakers and artists. Participants of the Print It Yourself Festival will be walked through the printmaking process, both technical and creative, and consequently the public will learn what goes into making a finished print so they may engage in the process themselves in the future.

We will also welcome the public to watch the public linocut demonstration and printing with our mini press during the City of Calgary's Alberta Culture Days Block Party. Through this, the public will become educated and engaged in the printmaking process.

2015

The Print It Yourself Festival was a blast!

In 2015, Alberta Printmakers presented our annual PIY Festival, including a free day of printmaking workshops hosted by various volunteers with professional experience in printmaking. With last year’s Print It Yourself event and Alberta Culture Days block party being such a success, we just had to do it all over again!  We also presented PRINT IT LARGE, Calgary's first EVER steamroller printing event!

A/P invited members of the public to participate in various printmaking activities, taught by professional printmakers.

Participants of the Print It Yourself Festival were walked through the printmaking process, both technical and creative, and consequently they learned much of what goes into making a finished print!

We hope everyone had fun!

Event Details:

September 26th

11AM-5PM

At Alberta Printmakers Studio and Gallery - 4025 4th Street SE, Calgary

Alberta Printmakers is excited to say that we organized the first EVER Steamroller Print Project event in Calgary, held on Friday, September 25th, 2015 on Stephen Avenue.

This event, which ran from 3pm until 8:30pm, got students, artists and the community to come together in a cooperative and collaborative event to celebrate culture. Large scale (4'x8') woodblocks were carved during the month leading up to the event using both traditional hand tools as well as electric carvers, saws and routers. These woodblocks were then printed using a construction steamroller on the day of “Print It Large!” as part of Alberta Printmakers annual Print It Yourself Festival and Alberta Culture Days.

Artists who participated in making work for the event included Eveline Koljin, Scott Baird and Ashley Slemming, Alison Frank, and a collaborative group of three artists called Ink Smashed Artists.
